Luke wrote the book of Acts as a testament to the explosive spread of the gospel and the rapid growth of the church after Christ’s ascension. Beginning with the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, the new church was born, and Christ empowered His followers with His divine authority to preach the gospel to all nations. Amongst persecution and opposition, the early believers relied on God’s spirit for direction and wisdom. As He does today, God showed His infinite power, regardless of the circumstances.
